Pakistan bowler Mohammad Amir retires from Tests at 27 to 'concentrate on white-ball cricket'

Pakistan paceman Mohammad Amir retired from Test cricket on Friday - aged just 27.

Amir emerged as a 17-year-old sensation in 2009 but ends his career having played just 36 Tests, in part due to a five-year ban for spot-fixing. He took 119 wickets at 30.47.

Amir said he had agonised over the decision, which will allow him to focus on white-ball cricket for Pakistan, who have not played a Test match at “home” since the 2009 terror attack on the Sri Lanka team bus.

Instead, they currently play home Test matches in the UAE.

“It has been an honour to represent Pakistan in the pinnacle and traditional format of the game,” Amir said.

“I, however, have decided to move away from the longer version so I can concentrate on white-ball cricket.

“It has not been an easy decision to make and I have been thinking about this for some time.

"But with the ICC World Test Championship commencing shortly, and Pakistan boasting some very exciting young fast bowlers, it is appropriate that I call on my time in Test cricket so that the selectors can plan accordingly.”
