Paisley woman 'assaulted cops and tried to grab pepper spray' after flouting lockdown rules

A woman caught breaking lockdown rules at a Paisley flat party allegedly assaulted cops and tried to grab their pepper spray.

Officers were called to the property after several people were allegedly seen flouting social distancing guidelines on May 6.

But when cops arrived, the 36-year-old woman began threatening them before struggling violently as they tried to arrest her.

The woman also allegedly reached for the pepper spray of one officer who was then forced to use it on her in a bid to regain control.

A 26-year-old man who was also inside the flat began shouting aggressively before officers were forced to threaten him with the PAVA spray.

The incident was referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner who launched an investigation.

They have since determined that the officers’ behaviour was “justified, proportionate and necessary to prevent further injury to officers and to assist in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.”

A police officer was injured during the altercation but the extent of their injuries is not known.

The man and woman involved in the incident are both subject to a report to the Procurator Fiscal.
