A jealous teen pulled his ex-girlfriend to the floor by the hair and stole her phone to stop her talking to another man.
Tyler Joe Mill, 19, set about Stacey McEchran at a property in Stirrat Street, Paisley, during a furious row over her friendship with another man.
A trial at Paisley Sheriff Court heard Mill chased after her, grabbed Ms McEchran, pushed her against a wall, pulled her down by her hair, before preventing her from getting up.
The brute also stole her iPhone during a struggle to prevent her from contacting her male friend.
Procurator fiscal depute Susan Barr asked Mill why he pursued her, attacked and “snatched” her phone out of her hand.
He said: “She told me she still had feelings for him (her male friend). We had broken up. We were arguing about him.”
The fiscal asked him why it was up to him “to dictate” who she spoke to, when he replied that he “only wanted to sort things out,” with the complainer.
Ms Barr said: “So you pursued her and snatched her phone from her hand to ensure she couldn’t talk to him?”
The accused replied: “Yes,” and also admitted that he “flipped” Ms McEchran over by grabbing her because he was “frightened of her and in danger for his life.”
He said: “She came at me. So I got hold of her arm and I flipped her over.
“I was frightened for my life.
“I just remember I fell on top of her.
“I was trying to control her the majority of the time.”
The fiscal asked if he “was shouting at her, pursuing her, assaulting her,” to which he replied: “No.”
The court heard Mill, from Edinburgh, who is no longer in a relationship with Ms McEchran, even claimed she was the aggressor who had attacked him with a key.
Defence agent Bob Kerr asked his client why he felt he was in danger from her.
Mill replied: “She was swinging it about (the key).
“Swinging her arms about. I felt I was in danger for my life.
“She swung for my throat with the key.”
When asked if Ms McEchran had “got the better of him” during the rammy, Mill replied: “Yes.”
However, he was convicted after trial before Sheriff Eoin McGinty who told him the evidence was both clear and strong enough to find him guilty of charges of assaulting the complainer on July 14, 2019, at her home in Paisley, and of stealing her iPhone.
Sentencing Mill was deferred until June 7, this year, when he will discover his fate.
