Paisley taxi driver battered by thug because he wouldn’t let dog in the cab

Police are on the hunt for a thug who battered a taxi driver - because he wouldn’t let his pet dog into the cab.

The 42-year-old victim was picking up in Ben More Drive, Paisley, on Saturday (October 17) around 3.55pm.

Three men and a dog tried to get into the taxi but the driver explained that pets aren’t allowed in his cab, reports our sister title the Paisley Daily Express.

The irate dog owner took issue with this and jumped into the front seat, assaulting the cabbie, before the three ran off from the scene of the crime.

The victim sustained facial injuries but did not need hospital treatment.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley's community policing team, said: "Police were called to reports a 42-year-old man had been assaulted in Ben More Drive, Paisley around 3.55pm on Saturday.

"The victim, who is employed as a taxi driver, was struck in the head repeatedly by an unknown male. He did not require hospital treatment but has been left shaken by the ordeal.

"We are keen to trace the individual responsible for this attack. Everyone should have the right to go to work without fear of becoming the victim of violence.”

Inspector Harkins appealed for anyone in the area at the time to come forward, adding: "If you witnessed what happened, or observed three men with a dog in the area following the incident then please contact us.

"I'd also ask anyone with dash cam footage from the are to check if they captured anything which may be useful to our investigation."

Info can be shared with Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
