Paisley supermarket gets fundraising effort underway for children's charity

A Paisley supermarket has successfully started its fundraising mission to raise cash for vital hospices in Scotland which care of terminally ill children.

Morrisons Anchor Mills in the town announced earlier this year that it would be supporting charity Together for Short Lives in the year 2022, with a number of fundraising events set to raise cash for the organisation.

And on Monday, the supermarket’s community champion Sharon Dennison got the effort underway with a fundraising gala day - raising more than £500 to support the charity.

Together For Short Lives is a UK charity which helps ensure terminally ill children in need of palliative care and their families can make the most of every moment they have together.

The money raised by Morrisons Anchor Mills will go directly to the only two hospices in Scotland - Robin House in Balloch, West Dunbartonshire, and Rachel House in Kinross.

Dozens of people came out to support the fundraising day on the bank holiday Monday, and Sharon was delighted her first event was such a success.

She said: “Together for Short Lives is a fantastic charity which does so much to support families and children who need it most.

“All of the money that we raise here at Anchor Mills throughout the year will be staying here in Scotland and going to two wonderful hospices that do so much for children all over the country.

“I was so pleased with how the day went on Monday, and we managed to raise a total of £522.22 for the hospices.

“Lots of people came along and had a great time and I am really grateful to all the businesses that donated prizes for our tombola and raffle and helped make the event a success.

“A big thanks also needs to go to the people who came down and volunteered their time to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves.”

There was plenty to enjoy on the day, with a mini funfair for the wee ones and plenty of prizes on offer for adults to get their hands on including gifts from Paisley businesses such as Bella and Fella hairdressers, Buddie Blooms florist and a number of gift vouchers donated by Morrisons staff.

The fundraiser for Together for Short Lives will continue all year, with Sharon set to organise plenty of activities and events to boost the total.

Shoppers can also donate in store as there are buckets located at every till as well as options to add a donation at self-service checkouts.

Sharon added: “We would appreciate any donation no matter how small from people who come into the store.”
