Person in hospital as Paisley street hit by another flat fire

One person was hospitalised after flames ripped through a building in Paisley’s west end yesterday in what is an act of deliberate fire raising, say police.

A large emergency service response was seen on the town’s Well Street yesterday around 5.15pm and into the evening as work to extinguish the blaze continued.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the windows of the first floor flat at number four on the street.

Multiple fire engines could be seen in the vicinity while the road was sealed off by police.

Officers say that investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.15pm on Thursday, 6 July, 2023, officers were called to a report of a fire on Well Street, Paisley.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 4.59pm on Thursday, July 6 to reports of a building on fire at Well Street, Paisley.

“Operations control mobilised two fire appliances and one height vehicle to the scene.

“Firefighters extinguished a fire affecting the ground floor of a four-storey derelict tenement building.

“One casualty was in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and was taken to hospital.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.

It’s the second blaze to have taken place on the street in the space of just a month.

On June 14 fire crews battled flames at a block of flats for two hours trying to extinguish it.

Police said that blaze was also being treated as deliberate.
