A man is in critical condition in hospital following a stabbing on a Paisley street earlier this morning.

The incident happened around 9.15am near a church on Broomlands Street, today being used as a polling station.

Police have since confirmed that the incident has nothing to do with the Scottish Parliament election.

The 50-year-old man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, having suffered life threatening injuries.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross from CID said: “This has been a targeted attack, with the two individuals known to each other, and one is now in a very serious condition in hospital.
