Police said the victim suffered minor injuries during the rammy and did not need hospital treatment, however he has been left badly shaken by the ordeal.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said the dog branch was called in to help hunt for the suspects following the attack on Tuesday.

She said: “Police were called to reports a 55-year-old man had been assaulted by two males within a shop in St Mirren Street around 8.50pm.

“Officers from the dog branch and community policing team attended the scene in an effort to trace the individuals responsible.

She added: “The victim sustained minor injuries to his face and body as a result of the incident but did not require medical treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

The spokeswoman confirmed two men, aged 34 and 37, had been arrested and charged in connection with alleged theft and assault offences.
