Paisley service that helps shoppers get around is ensuring everyone can enjoy Doors Open Days

Buildings across Renfrewshire will be throwing their doors open to welcome visitors for this year’s Doors Open Days.

And Shopbmobility Paisley and District is ensuring everyone will be able to enjoy the event.

The event takes place this year on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18 with a range of venues opening up across Paisley and Renfrewshire including Sma’ Shot Cottages, Paisley Abbey and Paisley’s Secret Collection.

However, for some people it’s difficult to walk between the various venues due to ill-health or injury.

Shopmobility Paisley & District, based in Storie Street, offers free daily hire of mobility scooters and wheelchairs to members and these could help people get around the various venues for Doors Open Day.

Shopmobility office manager Karen Miller said: “Doors Open Day is a great annual event which allows people to explore local landmarks and key buildings which aren’t normally open to the public.

“Anyone needing help getting around could benefit from hiring one of our mobility scooters or wheelchairs, allowing them to visit more of the venues participating in Doors Open Day.”

Shopmobility recently received a donation of new wheelchairs as there has been an increase in demand for them.

Kenny MacLaren, chair of Shopmobility Paisley and District, said: “I know a lot of people try to get around as many of the Doors Open properties as possible but this isn't always possible if you have mobility problems.

“However, with the help and support of Shopmobility Paisley and District, getting around such sites may not be as problematic. Simply join as a member - membership is free - and then hire a mobility scooter or wheelchair to help you get around as many properties as you wish."

The service also provides work experience for pupils at Mary Russell School during term time and this week. They got a helping hand from Ashleigh and Cameron, who used Shopmobility’s scooters to highlight the venues open during Doors Open Days.

If you want to hire a free wheelchair or scooter to help you get around at the weekend, you can join as a member, just provide ID.

Shopmobility is closed on Sundays but there is the option to hire equipment overnight on the Saturday and return on Monday at a small cost for overnight hires.

It’s £1 for a wheelchair and £5 for a scooter overnight.
