Paisley school closing from tomorrow due to "close contacts of positive Covid-19 cases"

Renfrewshire Council has apologised to parents after its decision to close Todholm Primary School in Paisley following the identification of a number of close contacts of positive Covid-19 cases believed to be linked to the Omicron variant.

A letter has gone out to parents today informing them that Todholm Primary will be closed from tomorrow tomorrow - December 6 - for five days because of the impact on staffing following NHS Test and Protect identifying a number of close contacts within the school community, including school staff.

The decision by the council relates to the impact on staffing and the inability to maintain appropriate staffing levels in the primary school and does not relate to public health issues.

Parents had already been notified of positive Covid-19 cases at the school and a risk assessment had already been carried out by public health and environmental health teams which concluded that health and safety measures in place at the school were robust.

The nursery remains unaffected and will remain open.

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: "Todholm primary school will temporarily close tomorrow - Monday, December 6 for 5 days. This follows NHS Test and Protect contact tracing that requires members of the school community to self-isolate, including school staff.

"This is due to Covid-19 cases linked to the school confirmed as or likely to be the new Omicron variant. Due to the number of staff asked to self-isolate we have taken the decision to close the school and to switch to remote learning from Monday morning.

“The decision has been taken as we are unable to maintain appropriate staffing levels and is not a public health matter.

"Following identification of cases, a further risk assessment was carried out by public health and environmental health teams and all appropriate health and safety measures were found to be robust.”
