Paisley Pirates put in their “most complete performance” of the season so far to snatch an overtime win against Dundee Tigers.
The Paisley club took the lead through Marty Simpson, with Kris Phillips putting them 2-1 ahead after the visitors equalised in the second period.
Tigers scored on a powerplay to level in the third and take the 2-2 game to overtime.
But Rolands Dietlavs dramatically scored just 13 seconds into over-time to secure the extra point for the Pirates.
Delighted head coach Ian Turley told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “For the first 45 minutes we were brilliant and in the last 15 we had to dig in a bit more.
“It was our most complete performance since returning back to action which was very pleasing.
“The last time we played them around two years ago they actually scored in overtime to grab the win over us, so it was sweet to get some revenge back on them.
“We’re creating that winning ethos that we’re after. Even though we’re still behind other teams in terms of training we’re starting to see our big players step up in big moments.”
Adam Walker believes there’s still plenty more to come from the Pirates as they head into another difficult clash at Braehead Arena this Saturday against as yet unbeaten Aberdeen Lynx.
He said: “It was a really tough game but the guys worked very hard to earn the win.
“It was our best game of the season so far and it’s pleasing to see us getting sharper with every game that passes.
“It’s been difficult starting so late and we’re still pretty injury-ravaged. We were missing four or five for the Dundee game and had a couple of guys on the bench who are nowhere near fit.
“Rolands came up with the winner and he’s made a great impact so far on the team. He’s skillful and has made a good impression in the dressing room.
“From what I’ve heard Aberdeen are pretty similar to Dundee this season, so we know we’re in for another tough test. Hopefully we can keep this winning run going.”
Face-off on Saturday is at 7pm.
