Paisley panto dame accused of embezzling £14k from PACE drama group

The trial of a former Paisley theatre boss accused of embezzling money from a kids’ drama group has been pushed back until September.

David McCann, 58, faces allegations that he embezzled £14,000 from PACE Theatre Company, the group that launched the careers of James McAvoy, Paolo Nutini and Richard Madden.

Prosecutors claim McCann, better known under his stage name David Wallace, embezzled cash from the group’s base in School Wynd, Paisley, between December 2013 and March 2017.

Wallace was not present at court this week for the hearing before Sheriff Seith Ireland because the Covid-19 pandemic has drastically cut back the number of people appearing and cases are being dealt with administratively by the authorities.

The case previously called in October and the trial was due to begin yesterday, however, due to the ongoing pandemic it has been delayed further.

Defence agent Gemma Elder confirmed her client was maintaining his plea of not guilty to the charges.

Sheriff Ireland said the court was prepared to continue the case until September 21 where both sides will be expected to present their evidence.
