Paisley nurse stabbed in face with broken bottle

A gang of feral teens smashed a broken bottle into a nurse’s face as he walked home with a friend.

The 33-year-old health worker will be left scarred for life following the unprovoked attack in Paisley town centre.

The innocent victim suffered an 8cm gash to his face in the senseless assault and was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

Police say the armed attack happened in Causeyside Street near Forbes Place around 11.10pm on Tuesday.

It’s understood the two men were approached by the group of violent teenagers who started talking to them before sinking the broken bottle into the victim’s face.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, last night said the onslaught could leave the man with permanent damage.

She said: “A 33-year-old man was approached by a group of youths and struck in the face with a broken bottle, leaving him with a large laceration.

“The unprovoked attack could leave him with permanent scarring.

“The victim was simply going about his business when he was violently assaulted.

“This kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

She also urged parents to know where their children are at all times as a trend of violence involving youths in the town continues.

“Over the last week or so there have been a number of reports of youth disorder and violence within the town centre area, which is very disappointing.

“I understand that parents can’t be with their children 24/7 but they should at least know where they are, and advise them about the consequences of their actions.

“We have no intention of criminalising young people for socialising with their friends, however in light of recent incidents I would ask members of the public to phone 101 if they have any doubts in relation to the behaviour of any groups gathering around the Paisley area.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said two 15-year-old boys have been referred to the Children’s Reporter.
