Paisley lout pays the price for lashing out at partner

An abusive yob who terrorised his partner in a domestic rammy has been hit with a hefty fine.

Daniel Smith, 30, targeted Alisa Livingstone in a tirade of abuse at a house in Bemersyde Road, Paisley.

Smith appeared at the town’s sheriff court for sentencing this week after pleading guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

He admitted shouting, swearing and acting aggressively towards her during the incident, which happened on September 23, 2019.

The court had requested background reports ahead of sentencing him.

Defence agent James Arrol said his client was already on a Community Payback Order, on which he said, “he is doing well”.

However, he added Smith had not been of “good behaviour,” following the domestic rammy and was expected to appear at court on another matter.

He said: “This matter was deferred for him to be of good behaviour.

“Clearly, this has not happened.”

The lawyer said Smith “appears to have calmed down” and had resumed his relationship with his girlfriend.

He said: “He is currently furloughed from work and has found it difficult spending time at home during the lockdown with a drop in income, but he appears to be coping better.

“He would be prepared to pay fine at a reduced rate and would be able to pay more once more work is forthcoming.”

Sheriff Suhkwinder Gill told him she was prepared to “draw a line” under the domestic abuse offence.

She also wanted him to continue complying with his Community Payback Order.

She said: “You do have matters outstanding, but the order is going reasonably well so I don’t want to do anything which will interfere with that.

“So I am prepared to bring the matter to an end today and I will impose a fine of £350 on you.”
