Paisley house fire that killed three young children ruled 'not suspicious'

A horror house fire in Paisley that killed three young children has been ruled 'non-suspicious'.

The blaze broke out on Friday with Fiona Gibson, 12, and her two brothers Alexander James Gibson, 8, and Philip Gibson, 5, dying in hospital after being pulled from the flames by firefighters.

Their mum Julie Daley, 39, who was also in the property, is still being treated in hospital.

Now police have confirmed the the fire is not being treated as 'suspicious' as they launch an investigation into the tragic incident.

Heartbroken dad, Alex Gibson, sobbed yesterday as he returned to his home and kneeled down to look at tributes left outside the flat for his three “little angels” on Father's Day.

He broke down looking at the remains of their home, an upper cottage flat in Renfrew Road, Gallowhill, while being supported by family members and escorted by two police family liaison officers.

Alex had walked to the nearby Esso garage on Friday night to buy sweets and crisps for his children, only to return and find the family home engulfed in flames at around 9pm.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm a fatal fire in Paisley is not being treated as suspicious.

"The incident happened around 9pm on Friday, 19 June, 2020 within a flat on Renfrew Road. Officers attended alongside the fire service and ambulance service.

"Three children - aged 5, 8 and 12 - were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and died a short time later.

"A 39-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where she remains and her condition is now described as not life threatening."

Chief Inspector Rhona Fraser, area commander for Paisley, said: "My thoughts are with the family and the effect this has had on them and the local community.

"Officers remain at the address while enquiries continue. This is standard procedure and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
