Paisley goes back in time to the 1940s for new BBC film

Paisley’s streets were transformed into the 1940s as filming continued for a major new BBC One production in the town.

Film crews have been out and about across the town over the past few weeks filming the adaptation of the best-selling novel, Elizabeth Is Missing.

Acting legend Glenda Jackson plays the main character Maud who tells the story of the book in flashbacks to her childhood in the post-war era.

When her best friend Elizabeth goes missing, Maud is convinced that something terrible has happened, and sets out to solve the mystery.

But with her dementia worsening, unfinished business unearthed and the past and present starting to merge, Maud’s search takes on a poignant urgency.

Glenda Jackson said: “Emma’s novel and Andrea’s screenplay paint the most striking portrait of a woman in the grip of a devastating condition.

“I am delighted to be making my return to television to play Maud, a character it’s impossible not to be charmed and moved by.”

Other cast members include Helen Behan from This Is England as Helen, Sophie Rundle, previously seen in Bodyguard alongside Elderslie’s Richard Madden, as Sukey and Maggie Steed, known for EastEnders and Paddington 2 as Elizabeth. Liv Hill plays the Young Maud in flashback scenes and was spotted filming in Paisley town centre.

Filming in the town is due to finish this week with other scenes being shot around Scotland.

The one-off 90 minute film is being made by STV Productions and is expected to be on screen next year.
