Paisley family will walk on hot coals to raise money for local groups

A Paisley family are getting ready to brave walking on hot coals to raise money for groups close to their heart.

Martin Park, his wife Christine, and their sons Matthew, 14 and 10-year-old Taylor are taking part in the firewalk next month.

It has been organised by Mindshift Group Fitness, a motivational organisation which helps people be the best version of themselves through mindset and physical training.

The family are raising money for Johnstone Burgh 2007 team, where Matthew plays, and AG Theatre School in Johnstone, which Taylor attends.

And they think Taylor may be the youngest participant on the night.

Martin said: “Mindshift is a group set up by Paul Elliott. It helps people cope with life and believe in themselves again.

“It encourages you to be all you can be. Paul does sessions with the boys at Johnstone Burgh on a Wednesday night to help them believe in themselves and with their wellbeing.

“Me and Matthew go along to sessions as well. It’s really helped Matthew’s confidence.

“A few weeks ago they had an experience where you walked over broken glass. We both did that, it was mind over matter.

“The next level up is a firewalk so we decided to sign up.

“We went home and told my wife and other son Taylor and they said they’d do it with us. So it’s going to be a family experience.

“I think Taylor will be the youngest participant there.”

The family, who live in Foxbar, Paisley, have chosen to split their sponsorship between Johnstone Burgh 2007’s and AG Theatre School.

Martin said: “The Mindshift mantra is: You can, you will, you must.

“Mindshift has definitely helped us. It gives you a different outlook on life, on what you actually can achieve.

“We’re raising money for groups which are important to both the boys.”

They’ve set up a JustGiving page for donations ahead of the firewalk, which is on October 24 at the Normandy Hotel in Renfrew.

“I’m actually looking forward to it,” said Martin. “We all are. It’s good that we can do it as a family and encourage each other.”
