Paisley dad's heartbreaking tribute to 'little angels' after three children die in flat fire

The dad of three children who tragically died in a flat fire in Paisley has paid tribute to his 'little angels'.

Police earlier confirmed three youngsters - Fiona Gibson, 12, Alexander James Gibson, 8, and Philip Gibson, 5, all sadly passed away after being rushed to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following the blaze last night. Emergency services had earlier raced to the fire at the Renfrew Road property in Gallowhill.

Meanwhile, police say a 39-year-old woman, believed to be the childrens' mum, is fighting for her life in hospital.

Dad Alex Gibson this evening commented: "may you rest in peace little angels".

Nicola Sturgeon has paid tribute following the devastating fire, saying she's been left heartbroken. Scotland's First Minister took to Twitter to say: "No words are enough. It’s just heartbreaking.

"My thoughts are with all who loved these poor children.

"Fiona, Alexander and Philip - may you rest in peace."

Local football club St Mirren have also responded, commenting: "St Mirren Football Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of three children in a house fire in Paisley last night.

"Our sincerest condolences go out to all affected by this tragic incident."

An investigation into the blaze has now been launched.

Police this afternoon advised: "Police Scotland officers are continuing enquiries following a fatal fire at a flat in Paisley on Friday, 19 June, 2020.

"Around 9 pm on Friday, 19 June, 2020 emergency services attended a report of fire at an upper cottage flat in Renfrew Road, Paisley.

"Three children, Fiona Gibson (12), Alexander James Gibson (8) and Philip Gibson (5) were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but sadly died a short time after admission.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

"A 39-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. Hospital staff describe her condition as critical."

A police spokesperson added: "An investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of this incident.

“Anyone who has information that could assist our enquiries should contact police via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 3669 of 19 June 2020."
