Paisley couple hoping to spread festive cheer with food drive for those in need

A Paisley couple are hoping to spread some Christmas cheer to families who need it most during the festive season.

Graham and Lyndsey Welsh, 33, have been working around the clock to collect food donations from kindhearted Buddies in time to be given out to those who may be struggling this year.

With the help of Jen and Scott Sloan, of The Cave Bar in Paisley, they have been left overwhelmed by the generosity of people in Renfrewshire.

They are now urging anyone in the area in need to come along on December 19 to collect food parcels to help them through the festive period.

Lyndsey, who lives in Ferguslie with Graham, 39, and their son Logan, said: “So many people have been affected by the pandemic this year and we know so many people who last year would not have needed support like this but now they do.

“We just wanted to do what we can to help people and it has been so lovely to see so many people trying to help.

“The response has been amazing.

“We are on track to have twice as many donations as last year.

“We’ve had people coming in with bags of things and apologising for not bringing more.

“Any little thing that anyone can give is such a help.”

Graham and Lyndsey took part in their first food drive event last year, which saw Greg driving all over Renfrewshire to collect donations from Pro-Life Fitness gym in Paisley.

After being so touched at people’s generosity last year, they knew they had to do it all again this year due to so many people facing difficulties.

They were then put in touch with Jen at The Cave, who stepped in to provide them with somewhere to store donations.

And as word of their efforts spread throughout Renfrewshire, more and more people have stepped in to help.

As well as providing food parcels, Graham and Lyndsey have collected 240 selection boxes for children.

They also hope to have some toys available for people to take away.

Lyndsey added: “We have received some fantastic donations so far.

“We were put in touch with Jen through Renfrewshire Helping Those in Need.

“She is sitting there with an empty pub just now and she wanted to help out.

“Jen has been opening up every Saturday from noon until 3pm to allow people to drop things off which has just been amazing.

“Graham has also been driving round and collecting donations from people.

“We have got so much more to help people than we thought we would get.

“We want people to know they can turn up here on December 19 and they will get whatever they need to get through.

“No questions asked.”

There is still time to donate to the food drive at The Cave.

Donations can be dropped off on Saturday from noon until 3pm.

The food drive will then open to those who need it on December 19.
