Paisley care home worker given warning for discussing sexual TV show in front of vulnerable service user

A care worker has been given a warning for discussing an inappropriate television show in front of vulnerable service users.

David Farnsworth was called before the Scottish Social Services Council Fitness to Practise Panel after being reported for his behaviour.

While working at a care home in Paisley in 2019, he said to a woman in the presence of a service user, "did you see the programme about OAPs f*****g".

He went on to say "an 87-year-old man was in the 69 position, not the normal way like us, it was two men licking each other’s a****”.

Mr Farnsworth is said to have continued to speak about the programme, despite the visitor telling him to stop, which led to her becoming upset.

The woman, who was visiting a friend at the care home, gave evidence to the panel. They stated that the care assistant instigated the conversation, failed to cease the conversation when asked to do so and caused her to become upset.

The panel found that the care workers fitness to practise was impaired and that he had failed to meet the standards necessary for the job by having a conversation with sexual content.

They concluded that, because there had been no previous history of such behaviour, a 12-month warning would be the most appropriate response.

Mr Farnsworth has now stopped working in the sector.
