Paisley care home company urging Buddies to give to the elderly this Christmas

A Paisley care home company is urging Buddies to give back this year by donating small presents to the elderly.

Home Instead Renfrewshire and Barrhead, which provides care to older people within their own homes, has launched a gift-giving campaign.

‘Be a Santa’ asks local residents to donate small gifts, including puzzle books, scarves, gloves, biscuits and chocolates, which will be distributed to older people in the area.

These gifts are then donated to the St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation, which distributes the donations at its Festive Friends at Home event.

A personalised Christmas Gift Box will be delivered to local people in the community who are spending Christmas alone.

There are many places across the area where you can donate a gift, including Peacocks Motor Engineers in Renfrew, Gowanlea Nurseries and Garden Centre in Johnstone, No. 8 Gift Shop in Johnstone, Erskine Baptist Church and the Home Instead Renfrewshire and Barrhead office in Renfrew Road, Paisley.

Paul Armstrong, owner of Home Instead Renfrewshire said: “It is a wonderful time of the year to give back to your local community, which is exactly what our campaign is encouraging local residents to do.

“The past two years have been challenging, and many older and vulnerable people have been hit the hardest being unable to see family and friends when they were asked to shield.

"We have been lucky enough to continue caring for our elderly clients throughout these periods, making sure they receive key companionship, but we know many are not so lucky, causing an increasing amount of loneliness and isolation.

“Bring some Christmas cheer to these people this year by donating a small gift - something that brings a smile to their faces. It is the time of year to remind people that we are thinking of them!”
