Paisley brute jailed after causing scarring to ex-girlfriend's face

A Paisley man has been jailed after he left his former partner permanently disfigured in a terrifying attack.

Following a trial at Paisley Sheriff Court, brute Thomas Corcoran was found guilty of repeatedly punching his ex-partner by a jury.

The 26-year-old repeatedly punched the woman’s head on July 19, last year while she was within her car in Barrhead’s Paisley Road – leaving her scarred for life from the vicious attack.

Corcoran, described as a prisoner of Low Moss jail in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, was also found guilty of causing “fear or alarm” on November 11, 2021 in Paisley’s Ivanhoe Road when he shouted, swore and threw stones at a car – all while subject to a court order.

The thug, formerly of Heriot Avenue, in Paisley’s Foxbar area, was also found guilty of causing “fear or alarm” on July 19 last year in Barrhead’s Paisley Road and Paisley’s Caplethill Road by shouting at the woman.

Corcoran then went on to throw a car wheel locking nut at the rear car window that his partner was in, causing damage to the vehicle – all while subject to a court condition that he does not approach or contact the woman.

Defence agent Sam Anderson told the court Corcoran wishes to publicly apologise towards his victim and explained: “In hindsight, he understands his behaviour was totally unacceptable.

“He takes full responsibility for his actions and understands that the custody threshold has been met in these offences,” she said.

Sheriff Bruce Erroch KC slammed the thug, stating: “There are a number of factors that concern me here.

“The first is that these are not your first offences. You have previous convictions for violence, there’s also a stalking charge and the current offences all have bail aggravations.

“I do regard these matters as ones that have passed the custody threshold and I don’t consider in the circumstances in this case that I can impose an alternative.”

Sheriff Erroch KC stated: “This was a frightening experience when you assaulted her in her car. You punched her head several times and the jury accepted you caused her permanent disfigurement as it left a scar.”

Corcoran was caged for a total of 21 months, backdating this to August 19, 2022, when he was remanded for the offences. In addition, he was made subject to a three-year non-harassment order preventing him from contacting or approaching his ex.

The yob had previously been given a community payback order after he admitted sending 400 text messages to the same ex-partner, in one day.

Corcoran hounded his ex and her friend at a fast-food restaurant where he dragged his ex along the floor by her hair and kicked and bit her friend in a terrifying attack in 2018.

The assault tore out his ex-partner’s blonde hair extensions, and left her battered and bruised, after she had ended their relationship.

The court was shown footage of the savage attack at the Pizza Stop takeaway restaurant in Paisley’s Broomlands Street, where Corcoran stormed in and attacked the girls who had been on a night out on September 2.

Corcoran bombarded his former partner with texts and calls – many of which were abusive, threatening and degrading in their content – on November 3, 2018.
