A talented trio of Paisley Barbell lifters did their club proud after producing some incredible results at the WDFPF World Championships.
Held in Ireland, even qualifying for the event was a huge achievement, given the difficulties the coronavirus pandemic has thrown their way.
Despite this, Jacquie Harper, Pamela Thomson and Simon Winterborn all competed and made it onto the podium, producing several PBs to help take their game to the next level.
Thomson, in her first full year of lifting, claimed 4 PBs and a third place finish in the 80kg open category.
She finished with a squat lift of 100kg, a bench lift of 60kg and a 145kg deadlift for an impressive 305kg total.
Winterborn had to overcome some last-minute logistical challenges, but still managed to produce an experienced display of lifting to claim his second world title.
Competing in the M3 75kg category, he finished with a 155kg squat lift, a 115kg bench lift and a 175kg deadlift for a massive 445kg total.
Harper, competing in her second world event, also claimed victory in the M3 70kg class.
She produced an energetic display to smash 2 PBs, finishing with a squat lift of 90kg, a bench lift of 47.5kg and a 122.5kg deadlift for an impressive 260kg total.
Club founder Mark Fulton praised all three athletes for producing “fantastic” performances under real pressure against some of the world’s best.
He said “All three performances were outstanding in their own way.
“For Pamela Thomson to reach this level in her first year of competing and achieve third place is a true testament to her belief in herself.
“For Simon Winternborn, the win is reward for his meticulous execution and all-round, consistent no frills approach.
“Simon is one of the most consistent and diligent trainers in the club and he is now reaping the rewards for this on the platform.
“For Jacquie Harper, this is the culmination of a long road but one that she was determined to finish.
“This was the culmination of two years’ work following her first world event in 2019.
“It has been truly inspiring to see them all achieve these fantastic results on the platform and they have done our club proud, as always.”
Fulton added: “The club would like to thank Reload, Anvil Strength Gym and Brown’s Pressure Washers for supporting the club and its athletes competing in the event, with the club now reaping the benefits of their move to Anvil earlier in the year.”
The Paisley club’s lifters will be in action again soon as the club hosts the UK Masters and Scottish Championships at the Anvil Strength Gym, with a strong contingent representing the club.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available, as well as gym memberships at Anvil Strength.
