Paisley armed robbery: Thieves target home armed with knives as young child is inside

A couple have been left distressed after armed thieves stormed their home while their young child was in the next room.

The armed robbery took place around 11.50am on Friday morning in Dee Crescent, Paisley.

The 27-year-old mum was confronted by two men armed with bladed weapons when she answered the door to her home.

They made their way into the house where the woman’s 31-year-old partner challenged them, however, they managed to get into one of the rooms where they stole a small safe with personal items inside.

The suspects, who made off on foot towards Fulbar Road, are described as both white, between 30 and 40 years of age, wearing almost identical clothing: black work wear type jackets, dark trousers, dark sunglasses, gloves and black baseball caps.

Detective Constable John Sharkey is investigating the robbery. He said:  “Although thankfully not injured, this was very distressing for both the man and woman involved especially as their young child was also in the house at the time.

“The man gave chase after the suspects along Dee Crescent and managed to recover one of the weapons used, but the men got away.

“At this time we do not know why their house was targeted. We have had officers in the area speaking to neighbours many of whom came out to assist or who had heard a disturbance, however, we would still like to hear from anyone who may have seen the two suspects – who will have looked completely out of place there - before or after the robbery, or who may have any information that will assist officers with their enquiries.”

Any information can be passed to Paisley CID via 101. Please quote reference number 1313 of the 3 May 2019 when calling. Details can also be given in confidence to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
