Two men whom police arrested after they allegedly stole Mars Bars, assaulted staff and damaged the front door of the Fyshwick 7-Eleven store on Friday night have been remanded in custody.
Police allege about 9.40pm on Friday, 18-year-old Barry Roberts and 27-year-old Corey Ayling arrived at the store in a purple Ford Falcon ute with no number plates.
The pair refused to pre-pay for fuel, allegedly assaulted a staff member and a security guard, stole the confectionery and then left.
A short time later, the ute was located by police on the Monaro Highway, Fyshwick, with major damage from a collision with the guard rail, and facing oncoming traffic in the southbound lanes of the road.
Police searched the area and arrested Roberts and Ayling.
Ayling was already on parole for previous offences.
Both faced charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, dishonestly appropriating property and damaging property.
Magistrate Peter Morrison remanded Roberts until Monday because he was not fully reassured as to his identity, while Ayling will remain in custody until June 7.
Police are seeking any dash-cam footage and witnesses to the robbery, the collision, and an attempt by another motorist to render assistance following the crash into the guard rail.
