Pair of tights caused Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton's royal wedding fallout

There have been many whispers of a fallout between Meghan Markle and the Duchess of Cambridge in the lead up to the Sussexes' royal wedding, with insiders claiming Kate was in tears at one of the bridesmaid dress fittings.

Just months after Meghan and Harry exchanged their vows there were reports that the duchess' strict demands for her big day left her sister-in-law extremely upset.

Now, a friend has claimed to know the exact reason behind the "incident", which happened at the rehearsal, saying it was all to do with protocol.

Speaking to Tatler magazine, the pal said: "It was a hot day and apparently there was a row over whether the bridesmaids should wear tights or not.

"Kate, following protocol, felt that they should. Meghan didn't want them to."

The bridesmaids at the wedding, including Princess Charlotte, didn't wear tights on the day - suggesting Meghan won the row.

The friend claims that Kate has "impeccable manners".

They continued: "In the palace, you hear numerous stories of the staff saying so-and-so is a nightmare and behaves badly but you never hear that about Kate.

"Kate keeps her staff whereas Meghan doesn't. Doesn't that say everything?"

Last year insiders claimed the bridesmaid dress fitting had been a "stressful" event and very emotional.

A source told the Daily Telegraph: "Kate had only just given birth to her third child, Prince Louis, and was feeling quite emotional."

Royal aides didn't deny the incident took place, with one claiming Meghan and Kate are "very different people".

There were also rumours of a fallout between William and Harry, however it's reported that Princes Charles's coronavorus Covid-19 diagnoses resulted in them getting back in touch.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight she believes their relationship is finally on the mend.

She said: "There has been so much written about the brothers, the 'royal rift', just the extent to which they have fallen out.

"There have clearly been some major problems in that relationship. Last year wasn't a great year. But things have got better."

She says the brothers have been speaking on the phone and via video chat.

Shes continued: "With Prince Charles not being well, that really forced the brothers to pick up the phone to each other and get back in touch.

"There are lots of reports of Prince Harry feeling homesick over in LA. I think it probably is the right time for him to pick up the phone to his brother and I'm told this has happened."

There have also been a lot of family birthdays - including the Queen, Prince Louis and Archie - which have involved virtual catch-ups.

Katie believes the restoration of communication has been welcomed by Meghan and Kate.

She said: "I think there is a sense of relief probably on both sides that this tension and high drama is a thing of the past.

"The Sussexes are free to get on with their new lives and the Cambridges can get back to their old lives without all the upset and the drama that was clearly a big deal behind the scenes."

However she believes that Kate and William are still sad about Harry being so far away, adding: "They miss Harry, they missing having him around and they miss having him as a part of their lives."
