Pair of thugs challenged cops to fight then attacked with headbutts and punches

Two thugs who attacked the same police officer in Petersburn face a further wait to discover their fate after background reports on one of them were unavailable.

Dylan Leitch, 18, and Scott Rodger, 25, targeted cops who attended Leitch’s Luing home on June 24 last year.

Leitch shouted and swore before “challenging the officers to a fight” and “struggling with them”; he then head-butted a male constable and punched him on the body.

Rodger, of Motherwell, also shouted and swore at the cops, uttering “violent threats and threats to kill two officers”, and struggled with them.

He repeatedly tried to punch the same constable Leitch attacked before actually “punching and kicking him on the body”.

The violent pair were eventually taken into custody at Coatbridge police office and owned up to their shameful conduct at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

Social work reports were ordered on both men ahead of their sentencing date last week.

But while the assessment on Rodger was available, Leitch’s defence solicitor revealed the background reports on his clients hadn’t been completed.

Sheriff Derek O’Carroll told Leitch and Rodger that he wanted both men “sentenced together” so deferred matters until August 28 for “the reports previously called for” on Leitch.
