Pair of Chargers named PFF Players of the Month

Even though the Chargers were hampered by injuries to several of their key players, there were a few that stood out in a big way and garnered attention nationally.

Pro Football Focus named their players of the month for September and two from Los Angeles were among the crop.

First up, quarterback Philip Rivers was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month.

Despite missing his starting left tackle, tight end and the Bolts’ No. 2 and 3 receiver, Rivers still managed to do what he does best, putting the team on his back.

The 38-year old has thrown seven touchdowns and just one interception with a 105.8 quarterback rating.

Rivers is No. 6 all-time in touchdowns with 381, and he’s close to accomplishing another feat, surpassing Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger in passing yards.

The other player mentioned was linebacker Drue Tranquill. Tranquill earned the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month.

Even though he hasn’t made much contributions on the defensive side of the ball due to the lack of snaps received, Tranquill has been a special teams ace.

The former Notre Dame product leads all players on special teams with an overall grade of 91.3. Tranquill has recorded two tackles and has yet to miss one.

It won’t be long before we start seeing Tranquill earn more snaps at linebacker. His performances this summer and on special teams have earned him the right.
