The Arizona Cardinals have one great pass rusher in Chandler Jones. The other edge position on the defense is a question mark. Markus Golden is going to be a free agent and the Cardinals probably don’t want to pay him big money or give him a long-term deal. They added Brooks Reed in the offseason but he hs not a great pass rusher.
With the possibility of landing a top pass rusher at the top of the draft like Nick Bosa or Josh Allen, committing a long-term contract to an edge rusher in free agency might not make the most sense, at least if the Cardinals are thinking of going with a pass rusher in the draft.
However, a pair of well-known pass rushers are going to be free agents and could make a lot of sense for Arizona. Both are aging stars who might play a year or two more in the NFL.
Consider Terrell Suggs and Cameron Wake.
Suggs is 36 years old, went to high school and college in Arizona and still is productive. He has 132.5 career sacks and still had seven last season. He is not a full-time player anymore but he could ease the transition for a guy like Bosa and mentor him. He has played in a 3-4 defense.
Wake played for Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. While Wake has really only played in a 4-3 defense, if used as a situational pass rusher, he could fit.
He is 37 years old, has 98 career sacks and still had six last season.
