Pair 'lucky to be alive' after van rams police car during chase

A driver and their passenger are "lucky to be alive" after a overloaded van rammed a police car with during a chase.

West Yorkshire Police (WYP) officers approached the van on the M62, near junction 28, and began a pursuit when it failed to stop.

The van then rammed into the police car before the driver lost control and rolled the vehicle in Gelderd Road, Leeds. The contents of the van, which may be stolen, were strewn across the road.

The driver and passenger were then arrested and they remain in police custody.

WYP Roads Policing Unit tweeted: "Enquiries ongoing. Both lucky to be alive."

They added: "We suspect it all to be stolen goods."
