Pair glassed man at nightclub before offering him £40k to keep quiet

Two men have admitted glassing a man and then trying to shut him up.

Kerry Lewis and Jamie Stephenson were due to stand trial this week but today (January 9) admitted an assault on Christopher Manning.

Lewis, 31 and of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent of Mr Manning on July 20 last year. He also admitted intimidation and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Stephenson, 26 and of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to wounding and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Mr Manning was attacked at Skinny Dippers night club, in Weston-super-Mare.

The day after he became aware Lewis was trying to get hold of him, and he then received a call from Lewis - who told him: "If you don't meet me you don't have a family."

Mr Manning then received offers rising to £40,000 to not cooperate with the prosecution.

Judge Martin Picton adjourned the sentencing of the case to be dealt with at Bristol Crown Court on January 17.

Both men were remanded in custody and will be produced for sentence.
