Two men have been convicted for their part in the fatal stabbing of a teenager who was on his way home to bake cakes with his grandmother.

Mason Bridle, 18, of Lewisham, was found guilty of murdering Cameron Murfitt, who was also 18 at the time, while Mario Gruda, 23, from Eltham was convicted of manslaughter.

The pair, who are due to be sentenced in April, had denied the offences but were found guilty on Tuesday, after a trial at Woolwich Crown Court.

It comes after police were called to Academy Road, junction with Shooters Hill, in Woolwich, on March 15 last year following reports that a man had been stabbed.

The trial heard how Mr Murfitt had been knocked from his bike by a car being driven by Gruda.

Cameron Murfitt was knocked off his motorbike and chased before being stabbed

Bridle, who was a passenger in the car, then got out and stabbed him multiple times.

The pair then drove off, leaving the 18-year-old fighting for his life.

Passers-by, paramedics and police fought to save him but he died at the scene at 3.30pm.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death to be a stab wound to the thigh.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard, who led the investigation, said: “I wish to thank those members of the public who came to Cameron’s aid following the brutal attack on him and those who later assisted what was an incredibly difficult investigation.”

He added: “I would also like to recognise the quiet dignity with which Cameron’s family have conducted themselves throughout the trial. I hope that today’s verdicts go some way towards offering them the closure they deserve whilst removing two very dangerous criminals from the streets.”

Mr Murfitt’s grandmother previously told the Standard that his last words to her were “See you Nan”.

“He was going to a friend’s to get his motorbike first. We were planning to make cakes when he got home,” she said.
