Pair charged with posing as police and trying to kidnap man

Two suspects are due to appear in court tomorrow charged with trying to kidnap a man while pretending to be police officers.

Marcus Sivori-O’Neill, 32, of Hampton Drive, Cronton, and David Ubido, 32, of Milton Road, Widnes, are both charged with two counts of impersonating a police constable, attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment and assault by beating.

Ubido also faces one count of assaulting a police officer.

The charges relate to incidents alleged to have taken place in Widnes in the early hours of Sunday, November 28, last year.

Cheshire Police reported at the time that a man and woman had been walking on Sinclair Avenue in Widnes when they were approached by two men who said they were police officers.

The strangers were alleged to have then conducted a search and driven away.

Police said that a short time later two men presenting themselves as officers approached a 61-year-old man on Milton Avenue and told him to get in the van and punched him, causing a “large cut to the head”, but a friend came to his aid and took him home.

In an update issued on Friday, December 3, a force spokeswoman said officers had arrested two men in connection with the investigation.

Sivori-O’Neill and Ubido are due to appear for the case’s first hearing at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court in Warrington tomorrow.
