Pair caught by police helicopter after fleeing car crash then issued with fixed penalty for lockdown breach

Cops used a helicopter to help catch the occupants of a car - then issued the pair fixed penalty notices for a covid lockdown breach.

Officers were hunting the driver and passenger following a serious road crash in Fife on Tuesday night.

The pair’s car crashed down an embankment on the B9157 near Aberdour and ended up in a field.

When officers arrived the occupants had disappeared so the Police Scotland helicopter was called in to help catch them.

And after the unfortunate men - aged 35 and 40 - were tracked down a short time later their night went from bad to worse when officers issued them a fixed penalty notice under coronavirus legislation.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed the helicopter was used to trace the vehicle’s occupants.

He said: “Around 6.30 pm on Tuesday, 22 December, 2020, police were informed of a vehicle having crashed down an embankment on the B9157 from the A909 road at Aberdour.

“The driver and passenger left the scene, but were traced by officers a short time later. Neither had any serious injuries.

“Both men, aged 35 and 40, were issued Fixed Penalty Notices in connection with breaches under the coronavirus legislation.”
