A pair were arrested Wednesday after a pursuit involving two cars stretched from Chicago into northwest Indiana.
The chase began shortly after noon when Norfolk Southern Railroad police spotted a Dodge pickup truck wanted for a previous incident, Illinois State Police said in an incident.
Police didn’t say what the previous incident was, but Norfolk Southern Railroad police were involved in a shootout with someone over the weekend on the South Side.
During that pursuit, which began on Interstate 94 near 79th Street, a minivan became involved and police began chasing that vehicle as well, state police said.
The minivan crashed near at a gas station on Sibley west of I-94. The driver then carjacked a Jeep on a ramp of the expressway, state police said. The Jeep was later found abandoned by the Chicago Police Department, state police said.
The Dodge from the initial pursuit was chased by railroad police into Indiana, where officers arrested two people, state police said.
State police are investigating the carjacking on the ramp of I-94. Chicago police declined to comment.
Norfolk Southern Railroad did not immediately reply to a request for further details.
