Pair armed with hammer leave man injured after aggravated burglary in East Belfast

A man in his 20s required hospital treatment after being struck over the head during a reported aggravated burglary in East Belfast on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at The Mount area of the city after two men – one armed with a hammer – entered the property around 4am on September 28.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incident and remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Gardiner said: “At around 4am, it was reported that two men entered a property in the area, with one man armed with a hammer.

"It was reported that a man in his 20s was struck over the head inside the property during the incident. The man required hospital treatment for his injuries.

“One man, aged 22, was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody at this time.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and we would appeal for anyone with any information to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 191 28/09/21.
