Pair admit neglecting baby who suffered dislocated arm and broken wrist

A man and a woman yesterday admitted failing to get urgent medical help for a seven-month-old baby girl who had a broken right arm and wrist and bruising.

At the High Court in Glasgow, Daniel Cowan, 29, from Dumfries, and Ailsa Findleton, 28, of Stranraer, pled guilty to wilfully neglecting the child between February 10 and 14, 2018, while she was in their care and injured.

They were cleared of attacking the baby girl by inflicting blunt force traumas on her because it couldn’t be determined who had caused the injuries.

The court heard that on February 9, 2018, the child had been admitted to Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer with breathing difficulties.

On February 14, 2018, she was examined at Galloway Royal Infirmary by Dr Rajesh Jale who found a number of bruises on her head and body.

Her left arm around the elbow was very swollen and found to be fractured and dislocated.

The pair pled guilty at the High Court in Glasgow (PA)

The baby had to undergo surgery to try to re-align the elbow.

A skeletal survey of the baby carried out on February 16, 2018, revealed healing fractures to her left arm and both legs and ribs.

Sentence was deferred until later this month.
