Painting your front door this colour can add £4,000 to the value of your home

With the property market reopening, many households are keen to get their homes up for sale.

Homeowners who want to sell up fast might be wondering what they can do to boost their profits.

Housing experts at Sellhousefast.uk discovered the colour of your front door can affect the value of your house by up to £4,000.

The property experts even looked into the psychology behind different colours and what they can reveal about you and your home.

Sellhousefast.uk analysed 1,000 properties on Zoopla and found that blue is the most valuable front door.

In fact, a blue front door can add a whopping £4,000 to your house value.

The second most valuable door colour is white, which can boost your property by roughly £3,400.

But it's bad news for those with brown doors, which can actually decrease the value of your property by £700.

Alex Willcocks of  Burbeck Interiors, said: “Extreme colours for doors are great if you want to inject your personality into your property but aren’t great for selling houses.

"They can be seen as vulgar, and harsh, and negatively retracts from the rest of the property and its features.”

“I would recommend painting your front door a neutral colour.

"People like to imagine themselves living in the property, and this is why neutral and minimalistic colours and styles work best.”

The housing experts also looked into the psychology of colour and what it conveys about your home to potential buyers.

Here is what your front door colour choice says about you:

Black

A black door is one of the most popular door colours in the UK.

Although black is sometimes described as “mysterious”, it is predominantly seen as stylish and sophisticated.

Blue

A blue front door can promote a feeling of serenity and a sense of freedom to potential buyers, which might suggest why this colour door adds the most value to your property.

Red

A red front door conveys a sense of traditional elegance.

It helps to make an otherwise bland exterior pop, becoming a striking focal point for your home.

Green

A green front door can evoke the feeling of trust and safety – something any potential homeowner wants from a home.

It can also signify prosperity, life and growth, too.

White

A white front door is a popular colour for modern abodes.

The colour signifies that your home is clean, organised, and peaceful.

Brown

A brown front door – usually built from natural wooden materials – suggests that your home is strong and stable.

Lee Chambers, an environmental psychologist and wellbeing consultant, said: “Colour is a powerful tool to communicate action, influence choice and even change people’s mood.

"It can even influence physiological reactions. While in office design, we use green in regenerative environments, and blue in productive environments, the colour of your front door can influence a buyer’s initial perception.

"Our eyes are drawn to entrance points, so a front door is often one of the first things we notice.”
