Adding to the barrage of art exhibitions and festivals this month, Thailand's leading property developer, Sansiri, has invited contemporary Spanish artist Miquel Barceló for the first ever live painting held on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.
Today and tomorrow, the acclaimed artist will be on the Sansiri Art Barge, putting his famed techniques onto a 20m-long canvas -- the biggest he's done to date. Known for his experimental approach in painting and sculpture, Barceló's neo-expressionist works explore decomposition, metamorphosis and the natural landscape across a wide range of different mediums -- painting, drawing, ceramics, cast-iron structures, even newly invented techniques.
Barceló is best known for his installation on the dome ceiling of the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilisations Chamber at the UN Palace of Nations in Geneva (2008), where he covered the ceiling with multi-coloured stalactites using 100 tons of colourful paint from around the world.
Though Barceló will be painting for two days on the barge, today is the only day when the general public can witness his live performance for free. Tomorrow's performance is an invite-only event for media and VIP guests. If you miss out on the live painting, curated selections of Miquel Barceló's works are displayed at Siam Commercial Bank, Talad Noi Branch Pier, until tomorrow.
Visit facebook.com/sansirifamily for ticket registration to be on the floating barge today. To access the floating barge, head to the Talad Noi Branch Pier at 3.30pm.
