'Pains me to admit' - Everton fans react to Rafa Benitez's first press conference

Everton fans have been reacting online following Rafa Benitez’s first press conference as the club’s new boss.

Benitez was confirmed as the new Everton boss at the end of June after the surprise departure of Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid at the beginning of that month.

The 61-year-old arrives at Goodison Park with a wealth of experience having managed in Spain, Italy, England and China in the past.

However, his appointment is arguably the most controversial in Merseyside football history due to his spell with Liverpool.

Benitez managed the Anfield club between 2004-10 and helped guide them to Champions League and FA Cup glory, and a second-place Premier League finish.

And here is how Evertonians reacted on Twitter to Benitez’s first press conference as the club’s new boss on Wednesday afternoon.

The majority of the Everton squad returned to Finch Farm last Monday for initial checks, before taking part in their first full session under their new boss on Tuesday.

And on Saturday, the Blues played their first pre-season football when they welcomed Accrington Stanley to Finch Farm for a training match.

While Benitez’s side will also take on Millonarios and one of either Arsenal or Inter Milan as part of the Florida Cup at the end of the month.

Everton will then conclude their pre-season campaign with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United a week before the start of the new campaign.

The Blues will kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Southampton on Saturday, August 14, with their first away trip being to Leeds United the following week.
