'Pain!' - Worried Arsenal fans react to Mikel Arteta's Charlie Patino decision vs AFC Wimbledon

Mikel Arteta's team selection for this evening's Carabao Cup third round tie against AFC Wimbledon has prompted a somewhat surprised reaction from Arsenal supporters.

The Gunners go into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday afternoon as they emerged victorious from an away fixture in the Premier League for the first time this season.

And they'll be expected to make it three wins in a row across all competitions before the end of the night.

With a north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur looming in the background, it has clearly had an effect on the Arsenal team that Arteta has selected to face the League One side.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the Spaniard did hint at freshening things up whilst also wanting to name a strong team.

"Absolutely and you have to praise that for sure," he said. "Let's see who's available, how they recover and what is the best way to approach the game.

"I hope that I can put out the strongest team I can.

"That means that the players have performed really well and then give a really strong performance and this is what we want to do."

As seen in the lineup graphic below, Arteta has made as many as 10 changes to the side that started the 1-0 win at Turf Moor, with Thomas Partey the only survivor.

This means Bernd Leno returns in goal, behind a back four of Cedric, Rob Holding, Pablo Mari and Nuno Tavares.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles gets another runout in midfield, whilst there's a recall for Gabriel Martinelli in a front three alongside Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

With that said, the main reaction to the team has centered around wonderkid Charlie Patino not even being named in the matchday squad.
