Paedophile who lured two children from childcare centre sentenced over third assault

Mule was arrested in April 2016 after abusing a boy and girl and leaving them in Hyde Park.

A paedophile who sexually assaulted two children after luring them away from a North Perth childcare centre has received a further jail term for sexually abusing a third child.

Vincenzo Mule, 54, was already serving a 10-year jail term over the abuse of the four-year-old girl and five-year-old boy.

The two children were found wandering in Hyde Park in April 2016 after he took them to a shed at the back of his house and assaulted them.

Mule pleaded guilty to the those offences, but he denied further allegations in an unrelated case that he sexually abused a third child, a young boy, between August 2014 and October 2015.

But after a trial in the District Court earlier this year, he was found guilty of two charges of sexually penetrating a child and two counts of indecent dealing.

He was acquitted of a further three charges of indecent dealing.

As well as the 10-year jail term for the North Perth offences, Mule was last year sentenced to four and a half years behind bars over an unrelated arson attack on a house and a car.

Sentence not 'crushing': judge

Mule was given another two and a half years in prison for the sexual abuse of the third child, meaning he is now serving a cumulative 16-and-a-half year sentence for all of his offences.

In determining the sentence, Judge Kathleen Glancy said she had taken in to account all of Mule's existing jail terms, because she did not want to give him a "crushing" sentence.

"I do not regard the total amount of time which you will serve for these offences, on top of those which you are presently serving, will be crushing upon you, in the sense of destroying any reasonable expectation of a useful life after you are released," she said.

Mule will have to serve 14 and a half years in prison before he can be released on parole.

With time already served, his first eligible release date will be in 2030.
