Paedophile told woman he wanted to have sex with her niece

A paedophile told a woman he wanted to have sex with her niece after she rejected him.

Matthew Trewhitt, 27, initially sent the woman a video and pictures of his genitals.

However, when she rejected him, he talked about trying to "get hold of a child", saying he preferred primary school children.

Trewhitt, of Garway, Liverpool, then said: "I'd sooner f*** somebody like your niece".

Christopher Hopkins, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court Trewhitt begun sending obscene messages in November 2018.

One of the first message read: "I want to f*** you senseless".

After he sent four images and a video of his genitals she responded "WTF"

The following morning Trewhitt sent the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, a long message.

Mr Hopkins told the court the message said: "She shouldn't be upset that he's asking to s*** her as he wasn't trying to follow his real desires of children - preferably primary".

He then spoke about "what's available on the internet" and talked about trying to "get hold of a child".

Trewhitt then wrote the obscene message relating to the woman's niece.

Mr Hopkins said: "This caused her particular distress".

The paedophile then stated that he "should be punished" for his behaviour and said "perhaps he should arrange for somebody to beat him up".

Trewhitt sent the same images of his genitals to another woman, who also told him not to contact her again.

At a previous court hearing, Trewhitt pleaded guilty to owning seven indecent images of children, sending communication with intent to cause distress and possessing cannabis.

He has no previous convictions.

Liverpool Crown Court heard from a consultant who stated that Trewhitt is suffering from a mental disorder to such a degree that it would be appropriate for the judge to impose a section 37 order under the mental health act - which would see Trewhitt sent to a psychiatric hospital.

Evidence was given in court from Trewhitt's treating clinician who disagreed with the assessment, stating that he believed Trewhitt would benefit from being in the community.

Judge David Aubrey, QC, also asked Trewhitt's mother for her opinion.

She told the court: "I just want somewhere for him to be safe so he can continue to be looked after."

Ultimately, Judge Aubrey, concluded that following the evidence given by both doctors, and the fact there was a bed available for Trewhitt at Rathbone Hospital, he was satisfied that a section 37 order under the Mental Health Act was appropriate.

Judge Aubrey based his finding partly on a report which detailed that Trewhitt suffers from hallucinations, hears voices and has "alternative dimensions in respect of his or her personality".

The judge said: "Whilst this sentencing hearing commenced on the understanding Rathbone Hospital was not able to him a bed under a low secure unit or rehabilitation unit, that has now been clarified."

Trewhitt was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for seven years.
