Paedophile dad who gave up daughter for sex loses bid to reduce jail term

The man will have to serve more than 20 years in jail before he can receive parole.

A Perth court has rejected an appeal from a man who sexually abused his daughter and offered her to other paedophiles for sex.

The girl was aged between 11 and 13 when the man, 43, abused her and arranged for her to engage in sexual activity with at least five other men.

He cannot be identified to protect his daughter's identity.

The man pleaded guilty to more than 60 offences against the girl, but appealed against his 22-and-a-half-year jail term — with his lawyer arguing the sentence was "manifestly excessive".

However, his appeal was dismissed in the WA Court of Appeal by Justice Michael Buss.

The decision means the man will have to serve more than 20 years behind bars before he is made eligible for parole.

The sentence was handed out last June, with the District Court in Perth told the dad met other men through online advertisements and offered the girl to them for sex while he watched or participated.

Some of the abuse was recorded and in one video, the girl was heard to say "please stop".

The court heard that in another instance — when the girl protested about being abused — her father chastised her and told her to "start".

Prosecutors said the man told police in an interview that while he had regrets about what he had done, "it was fun while it lasted".

The crimes were described as some of the most serious examples of sexual offending ever to be heard by the criminal courts in WA.

Five other men have been jailed for abusing the girl, with the sentences imposed on them ranging from three years to 12 years and nine months.

A former Christian pastor was sentenced in November 2015 to more than 10 years' jail for his role in the abuse.
