Queensland police have charged a 43-year-old man with murder following the death of a woman in Brisbane's south.

Police allege a 45-year-old woman was fatally wounded at Upper Mount Gravatt on Monday night.

The 43-year-old man, who was known to the woman, went to a police station and helped officers with their investigation on Tuesday, police say.

He was later taken into custody at the police station and charged with one count of murder as a domestic violence offence.

The man is due to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
