Renfroe's hot bat not enough as Rockies dump Padres

SAN DIEGO_Another big night for Hunter Renfroe was not enough to overcome another bad inning by Robbie Erlin.

The Colorado Rockies scored three runs in the fourth inning en route to a 4-2 victory Saturday night that stopped the San Diego Padres' season-high winning streak at four games.

Renfroe gave the Padres a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Through three innings, Erlin had not allowed a hit. Then DJ LeMahieu led off the fourth with a home run, and the Rockies added two more runs on three consecutive hits to take a 3-1 lead.

Renfroe added another homer in the fourth.

Erlin (1-3) was chased with one out in the sixth, having allowed two singles. Ian Desmond's flare into center field off Phil Maton scored one of those runners and gave the Rockies a 4-2 lead. He had a similar downfall in his previous start, shutting out the Los Angeles Dodgers for four innings last Sunday before allowing four runs in the fifth inning.

Renfroe now has 19 homers on the season, one shy of team leader Christian Villanueva, whose finger fracture has almost certainly ended his season.

Renfroe also extended his career-long hitting streak to nine games and is batting .313/.330/.697 with 11 home runs and 28 RBIs in the past 25 games, dating to Aug. 5.

Saturday was the third time in those 25 games Renfroe has driven in all of the Padres runs. In another six games, he has driven in at least half their runs.
