DENVER — The Padres will not play until Tuesday night. Maybe.
Their game Monday against the Rockies has been postponed in advance of a storm expected to bring rain and snow to Denver throughout the evening and into Tuesday. The game is scheduled to be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday.
Tuesday’s game is scheduled to begin at 5:40 p.m. PT. However, while the forecast does not call for the 100 percent certainty of precipitation that Monday’s does, there is a chance for rain Tuesday night as well.
Wednesday’s doubleheader, which will be two seven-inning games, is scheduled to start at 12:10 p.m. PT. The second game will begin no more than 45 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
The Padres simply pushed back their scheduled starters. That means Dinelson Lamet, who was scheduled to start Monday, will go Tuesday. Lamet is being carefully brought along as he works back from an elbow/forearm issue. He will be on a pitch limit that likely will preclude him from going much further than the two innings and 30 pitches he threw May 4.
“Cold weather could be a factor in how long he goes as well,” Padres manager Jayce Tingler said.
The forecast calls for temperatures in the high 30s to low-40s Tuesday night.
Yu Darvish will start the first game Wednesday with Blake Snell going in the second game.
The Rockies will start Antonio Senzatella, Jon Gray and left-hander Austin Gomber, in that order.
The Padres will enter the series a mile high, where teams generally hit much better, hoping to build an offensive surge from the 11 runs on 16 hits they got Sunday in San Francisco.
They could also be just a half-game behind the Giants in the National League West, depending on the result Monday night when the Giants host the Rangers.
The Rockies have the worst record in the National League.
