Padres pitcher Jacob Nix arrested

Padres pitcher Jacob Nix was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing Sunday after entering a home near the team's training complex in Peoria, Ariz.

According to news reports, the 23-year-old Nix entered a home through a doggie door and was confronted by the homeowner. When Nix attempted to leave the premises, the homeowner used a taser on Nix.

Nix and Thomas Cosgrove, a 12th-round pick by the Padres in 2017 who played for Single-A Lake Elsinore last season, were arrested a short while later.

The Padres issued the following statement:

"We are aware of the alleged incident involving Jacob Nix last Sunday in Arizona. We take this matter seriously and have been in contact with the Commissioner's office and local authorities. Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, we will not have any further comment at this time."

Nix made nine starts for the Padres at the end of 2018, posting a 2-5 record and 7.02 ERA in 42 1/3 innings. The organization's 28th-ranked prospect did not pitch in the majors this past season after suffering a UCL tear in spring training.

He was in Peoria pitching for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League.
