Padres pitcher claims he was mistakenly ejected for cheering teammate

In a wild, 14-8 Rockies win Saturday amid a wild series with Wild Card implications against the Padres at ever-wild Coors Field, Manny Machado got tossed for arguing a called strike on a fastball he felt was wild. Machado went wild after the ejection, wildly slamming his helmet and tossing his bat and earning himself a one-game suspension from MLB, which, wildly enough, the umpire’s union then objected to on Twitter with a wild overuse of hashtags.

But wait, it gets wilder! Padres pitcher Matt Strahm, who did not appear in the game, was himself ejected in the sixth inning. And to hear it from Strahm, he got run for saying something not terribly wild at all, but, in fact, quite mild.

Matt Strahm claimed his ejection was a mixup. After Manny had been tossed, the whole Padres dugout was chirping at Bill Welke. Strahm said he yelled, “Come on, Phil!” at Padres reliever Phil Maton and was later run by crew chief Mike Everitt, who thought he’d yelled at Welke. https://t.co/I7JluYgnDs

An innocent mistake, it was. That’s the ticket.
