Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin sells Poway home

Nov. 18--San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin, a player whom many expect to be wearing a different uniform next season, has sold his home in Poway for about $2.17 million.

The Tuscan-style residence, built in 2003, sits at the end of a cul-de-sac on a little more than an acre with an entertainer's cabana, a pool and waterfall, a large motor court and a five-car garage.

Entered through a glass-paneled door, the single-story floor plan boasts arched doorways, exposed beams, stone finishes and a mix of hardwood and Travertine flooring throughout. Features include a gourmet kitchen, a formal living room with a fireplace, a large family room and a game room with a wet bar.

The master bedroom, complete with an oversized tub, walk-in closet and a fireplace, centers on backyard and mountain views. The 6,505 square feet of living space counts six bedrooms and six bathrooms.

Outdoors, the grounds contain a covered patio with a fireplace, a cabana with an outdoor kitchen and a pool and spa with a stone waterfall feature and water slide, punctuated by tall palms and tropical landscaping.

The San Diego native, who was limited to 111 starts over the last two seasons because of injury, is reportedly open to waiving the no-trade clause in his contract to help facilitate a return to the American League, where he previously spent four seasons with the White Sox. He is entering the final year of a three-year, $27-million extension he signed with the Padres in 2012.

Records show that Quentin put the home on the market in early April for $2.349 million, with the sale closing over the summer. He and his wife, Jeane, paid $2.016 million for the property in late 2011.

Eric Matz of Coldwell Banker Residential listed the home on behalf of the ballplayer. Jeff Allan of Jeffrey Blaine Allan was the buyer and represented himself in the sale, according to the Multiple Listing Service.
